Over the final weeks of lessons some Far & Wide students worked on learning John Lennon’s “Imagine”. We decided to make videos from our homes across the country so that despite the geographic distance, we could play “together”.
As the tragic discoveries have been made of the lives lost at residential schools, the message of its lyrics are increasingly powerful.
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
We acknowledge this land on which we gather, it has been the traditional land of the: Anishinabewaki, Odawa, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, Attawonderonk, Mississauga, Wendat, Beothuk, Innu and Mi’kmaqi. We acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples; many continue to call this land home and act as its stewards. This responsibility extends to all peoples, to share and to care for this land and its waterways for generations to come.
We would like to thank the team who helped put this together! Brent Jones & Darryl Lahteenmaa
